Lawn Bowling Trophy Methil, Scotland: 1905 Ebonized wood with silver plates Displayed on a gilt bronze stand (optional) 5 inches diameter, ball 9 inches high, 4.75 inches diameter, stand 12.5 inches high, ball and stand, overall Ball only: $400 Stand only: $250 Ball and stand together, special price, $550 Lawn bowling trophy with incised decoration and round inset silver engraved plates at either end. The larger silver plate on the bottom reads “Methil Bowling Club 1905. Presented by Wm. Mitchell Esq. President. Won by Robert Porteous.” The smaller plate on the top is engraved with the number “2” (either referring to the number of the ball in a set, or an award for 2nd place). Above and below the “2,” the ball itself is inscribed “R.G. Lawrie, Glasgow, Number 3 Bias, Scottish Bowling Association.” A 1906 record online at the Fife Cultural Trust lists a Robert Porteous in Methil, whose profession was bootmaker.
