Bardin 9-Inch Terrestrial Table Globe Alexander Hamilton’s Library Hamilton Grange National Memorial, New York 2011 to present (permanent collection) An English table globe made by the Bardin firm in London in 1783 was sold by the George Glazer Gallery for the permanent collection of Hamilton Grange National Memorial, New York City. This historic house museum was once the home of Alexander Hamilton (1755-1804). The globe is from a period during which Hamilton was active as a lawyer, delegate to the Constitutional Convention, and the first Secretary of the Treasury under President George Washington. It is installed in the library of The Grange, the large Upper Manhattan home where Hamilton and his family lived beginning in 1802. According to a Hamilton Grange study guide for schoolteachers, the objects in the library help students “to get a better understanding of the materials that were around during that time period” that reflect Hamilton’s activities as an intellectual and writer. The globe was sold by George Glazer Gallery to the National Park Service as part of a 5-year renovation and relocation of The Grange house, which reopened in 2011.
